  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup or honey adjust to taste
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • 2 tablespoons hot water optional, if using instant coffee

Equipment

  • Coffee maker or kettle for hot water
  • Microwave-safe mug or cup
  • Measuring spoons
  • Measuring cup
  • Spoon for stirring

Method

  1. Peel your ripe banana and slice it into coins about half an inch thick.
  2. Place the banana slices into your blender or a tall glass if using an immersion blender.
  3. Add 1 cup of cold or room-temperature milk to the blender with your banana.
  4. Sprinkle in the vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and sea salt directly into the blender.
  5. If using instant coffee, dissolve it in 2 tablespoons of hot water first, then add to the blender. If using espresso, add it directly. Pour in your maple syrup or honey.
  6. Blend on high speed for about 45 seconds to 1 minute until the mixture is completely smooth and creamy with no banana chunks.
  7. Carefully pour the blended mixture into your favorite mug or cup.
  8. If you prefer your drink hot, microwave the poured drink for 60 to 90 seconds until it steams gently. Stir well before sipping. Serve immediately and enjoy.

Notes

Use frozen banana slices for a thicker, frostier texture. Make a big batch of the banana-spice base and keep it in your fridge for up to 3 days, then blend with fresh milk each morning. Taste before serving and add a touch more maple syrup if your banana wasn't very sweet, or an extra pinch of cinnamon if you want more spice. For a protein-packed version, add a scoop of vanilla protein powder or a tablespoon of nut butter to the blender.
