Method
- Place a clean shot glass on a flat, stable surface.
- Pour 0.75 ounces of Kahlúa into the shot glass until it reaches the halfway point.
- If you have time, refrigerate the Bailey's for 10 minutes before layering. Cold Bailey's layers more cleanly on top of the Kahlúa.
- Hold a bar spoon or regular teaspoon upside down just above the surface of the Kahlúa.
- Pour the Bailey's very slowly over the back of the spoon so it hits the spoon first and slides gently onto the Kahlúa layer, creating distinct stripes.
- Watch as the Bailey's floats on top of the Kahlúa, creating a visible line between the two liqueurs.
- Serve immediately. You can either knock it back as a traditional shot or sip it slowly to enjoy the flavor progression.
Notes
The temperature of your Bailey's matters more than anything else. Cold Bailey's will layer cleanly; room-temperature Bailey's might sink and mix. Pour the Bailey's as slowly as possible for the best layering effect. Serve immediately after pouring for the best visual impact and flavor separation.
